When Senators Barack Obama and John McCain both appeared at the Saddleback Civil Forum on the Presidency with Pastor Rick Warren last weekend, McCain used a myth about the supposed Judeo-Christian origin of American principles to pander to the evangelical Christian audience in a way I contrast with an Obama appearance at another Baptist church earlier this year. You can see the full section of the Saddleback Civil Forum interview of John McCain from which I took a short clip for this video from the CNN website at http://www.cnn.com/video/savp/... used Marion Doss's picture of Thomas Jefferson in my video under a creative commons license as described on his Flickr page at http://flickr.com/photos/oooch... can find the rest of Thomas Jefferson's 1824 letter to Major John Cartwright, among other places, at http://books.google.com/books?... can find the prepared text of Barack Obama's January 20, 2008 speech at Ebenezer Baptist Church from which I took a screen capture at http://www.barackobama.com/200... finally, you can find the full video of Barack Obama's January 20, 2008 speech at Ebenezer Baptist Church from which I took a short clip at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

"In God we trust." "One nation under God" "So help me God" These are all phrases that were foundations in our countries policies and procedures. Our country was founded under Christianity. If you disagree then you are simply ignorant.

Wrong. The majority of the founding fathers were deists and despised the bible and christianity.

America was founded by people whose cultural background was Christianity and Enlightenment. Enlightenment is a cultural movement which is rooted in (yes, you guessed right) Christianity, and Greek-Roman culture. Those are the pillars of America. Not Marxism, not Islam. These are later influences, and for the most part, bad influences. It makes sense to insist on America's European roots, unless you want it to become an extension of kidnapping happy Mexico.

"I'm an atheist and can truly say I'm more moral than most Christians/muslims,"Nobody can say that about himself. It's for people to judge how moral you are. Everybody feels he is more moral than everybody else.

Well, it's probably because we don't outlaw lying or adultery (things that go against some of the fundamental core values of Judaism/Christianity).

I agree with LV more times then not but why does every video have to begin with the word "so"?

How could anyone deny that the United States was not forged by Judeo Christian ideals. The framers were influenced by their religion and philosophers such as John Lock and I believe Thomas Payne. It is true that America cannot be exclusively one religion, but is CERTAINLY a result of Judeo christian principles.

this is true. some of the founders were deists. to wit: "In the United States, Enlightenment philosophy (which itself was heavily inspired by deist ideals) played a major role in creating the principle of separation of church and state, expressed in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Founding Fathers who were especially noted for being influenced by such philosophy include Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Cornelius Harnett, Gouverneur Morris, and Hugh Williamson."

It doesn't really matter. The Constitution explicitly says the country is not a Christian nation. You can say the majority of Americans are Christian, but you cannot say that this countries values are taken directly from the Bible. That's most definitely false.

HAHA I guess you have point there
